Our Adopted Kids...

Over the past several years, we have "adopted" several very special kids that are now a part of our family.

Below left: We recently adopted this very handsome Sheltie "Elliott" from the Fincastle League for Animal Protection. Below right: Elliott is now a big brother to our other Sheltie "Cassie."

Deb has a weakness for kitties...if you've been to see us, you've met Count, Meenah and Lucy who are the barn (actually, heated tackroom) kitties we adopted while living in Texas. But there is plenty of love and kitty food for these three, too!

Below left: "Felix and Oscar" are two orange neutered males that we adopted from the Rockbrige SPCA. Below middle: "Dusty Blue Cat" or "Dusty" is a grey neutered male that we adopted from a client. Below right: Meet "George" our newest adoption...from the Natural Bridge Animal Hospital. As you can see, life is tough at Amethyst Acres!!

Our biggest adopted kid by far is "Elmer". Elmer is an 18h Shire gelding who, along with several other Shire and Shire/Thoroughbred crosses, was rescued from a "kill lot" by a good friend and client. He is a big horse with a huge heart and a gentle soul who is now Deb's riding partner. Below left: Elmer and Deb. Below right: Out for a trail ride with Pat and Che.

Meet Pumpkin the pot bellied pig! Isn't she adorable? Pumpkin moved here from her Roanoke home and is enjoying the casual country life...shady naps and belly rubs!

These are the cutest kittens in the world. Period. Their names are Elphaba (black) and Glinda (tiger) and they were named after the characters in our favorite Broadway play "Wicked." We call them the "thumpity thumps" because they run around the house and sound like little elephants...although you would never know it from these lazy pictures!

FLASH.....SEVERAL MORE NEW ADOPTIONS HAVE TAKEN PLACE!!!!

LEFT: Meet Callie & Catera who came to us from Rugby Creek Animal Rescue the same place we got Sadeek. These folks do a wonderful job helping all animals in need. Callie & Catera are sisters and loving their new life at Amethyst Acres!!
NEXT: This is Matty...the mighty mini...hair blowing in the breeze...wheeeee!!!!! Life is good here!!!!!!!!!!!!
CENTER: This is "Doc Holliday" or just "Doc" as we call him. He came from the Rockbridge SPCA to be Dusty's new friend since we lost Count Burkula earlier this year. He and Dusty quickly became fast friends and now he is one of the official barn greeters!
RIGHT: Don't even ask how many cats we already have...but who could resist this guy? Meet Fiyero, the fearless carpet fighter. Fiyero came to us via Dr. Monique Siex and has quickly captured our hearts. He now lives with Glinda and Elphaba (how appropriate!!) and rules the house with an iron paw!
